A Note from Dr. Malone

Dear CHS Families—

This time of year invites reflection, and I keep coming back to one simple truth: our school is strongest when we move together. Thank you for the many ways you’ve partnered with us this semester—celebrating successes, working through challenges, and supporting your student’s growth along the way.

As we enter the final week before winter break, I ask for your support in helping us finish the semester strong. While there will be moments of lightness throughout the school this week, we will continue to hold firm to our structure and expectations. We need students to show up, arrive on time, and be ready to give their best effort each day—and CHS will do our part to support them.

To that end, CHS Time will run this week to allow students to work directly with teachers in classes where additional support or improvement is needed. In addition, after-school tutoring and buy-back opportunities will be offered this Tuesday and Thursday.

Please note that Quarter 2 concludes this week. All assignments and assessments should be completed by Friday. Report cards will be shared via ParentSquare on or after January 15, 2026.

As winter break begins, I hope your household finds meaningful moments of rest, laughter, and connection. We look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and ready for the next chapter of the year.

January 5th, 2026 is a Teacher Workday and all students will return on January 6th, 2026,

With appreciation and warmth,

Dr. Malone

After-school Tutoring and Buy-Back

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4p-5p.
Most days will be in the media center but may use A or B Commons if needed.
Snacks and Transportation available.

Student on-time arrival to class is critical for student success and class community development.
Student tardiness will be monitored on a daily basis.
Students who are excessively tardy (either by the frequency of tardiness or by the number of minutes) may be assigned After-school Buy Back from 4:00pm - 5pm (Tuesday/Thursdays) or lunch detention (daily). This includes students in the halls without Passes during our Tardy Sweeps (tardy checks after the bell has rung between classes).
CHS admin or staff will contact families whose students are assigned either Buy-Back or lunch detention.

Students who stay after school can either be picked-up or use the 5pm Activity Bus. Of course, approved students may also self-transport.

CSH food pantry

CHS Food Pantry and Closing

The pantry will be located in the front lobby between the two sets of entrance doors. We are waiting on the delivery of our shelf, but in the meantime we will be using the table that is set up. I know it's a big ask, but if you find yourself at the store tonight or tomorrow consider grabbing an item or two. Of course, we will be taking donations at any time going forward, but heading into this long weekend some families are feeling anxious. We also have a live Amazon Wishlist if that is more convenien

Coat Drive and Food Resources

Does Your Student Need a Coat?
As winter approaches, we want to make sure all students have what they need to be warm. If your child needs a winter coat, please contact your school counselor, social worker, or social emotional support counselor!

Food Resources in Our Community
The division has shared updates about SNAP and local food resources, including a reminder that breakfast and lunch are free to all Cville Schools students (no application needed)

Climate Survey and Academic Advising

In cooperation with the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services and the Virginia Department of Education, CHS will administer the Virginia School Survey of Climate and Working Conditions. The purpose of the student survey is to measure student support, engagement, school discipline, and safety conditions within each school. The information gathered is used to guide educational practices that foster safe, supportive learning environments.
CHS expects to survey students on Wednesday, January 14, during 5th period. Information about the climate survey was shared earlier today in a separate post, which can be accessed here:

Second, CHS is beginning our academic advising and master scheduling process for the 2026–2027 school year. This process includes school counselors meeting with each returning CHS student in early spring to discuss course options for the coming year. This past Thursday, CCS presented the Program of Studies to the School Board, highlighting new courses and expanded learning pathways available to students.
As part of this work, CHS will host a Curriculum Fair on January 21 to showcase our full range of course offerings, including partnerships with PVCC and CATEC programs. This year, we will also highlight the many clubs and activities available at CHS by inviting students and sponsors to showcase these student-led opportunities. Look for additional information about the Curriculum Fair and academic advising process over the next two weeks.
