A Note from Dr. Malone

Dear Black Knights,

This coming Monday marks the official end of the Third Quarter.

As we close out the quarter, there will be a brief window when students and families may not see grades for new assignments in PowerSchool. During this time, teachers are finalizing grades while our school prepares report cards for distribution. Charlottesville City Schools is currently exploring ways to keep the portal accessible during future report card cycles. For now, we appreciate your patience as the PowerSchool portal is temporarily unavailable for viewing new grades while this work is completed.

Below is a link for information on how to access Report Cards via ParentSquare once they are sent:
https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/62300406

As we move into the final stretch of the school year, this is an important time for students to take stock of their progress and confirm they are moving in the right direction academically. Students should be communicating with their teachers if they need clarification, additional support, or guidance about their progress.
CHS offers after-school tutoring on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we strongly encourage students to take advantage of this time to receive extra help, complete make-up work, or finish assessments.

Most importantly, we expect all students to continue bringing their best effort each day. Finishing the year strong requires focus, responsibility, and a willingness to seek support when it is needed. Our staff stands ready to help every student meet that goal.

With 3 weeks until Spring Break, students have nothing to lose by absolutely giving there very best heading into a break!

Important Report Card Dates
  • March 16: End of Quarter 3
  • March 12 – March 27: PowerSchool portal may be unavailable for viewing new grades
  • March 20: No School – Teacher Workday (Report Card Preparation)
  • March 27: Report cards sent via ParentSquare
  • March 27: PowerSchool portal reopens for students and families to view all grades to date
  • April 3 - Full School Day
  • April 6-10: Spring Break

Thank you for your continued partnership and support as we close out the quarter and prepare for a strong finish to the school year.

As always, we are the Black Knight Nation!

March Madness Event!

March is made for competition! It’s the final push in winter activities as we hop into spring! You have been wonderful donating time, money, and items to benefit CHS, but the year isn’t over, and the CHS PTO has even more field trips, materials, and scholarships we’d like to help make possible!

We’re hoping this new fundraiser will do just that. Can you help?

Simply choose a date on the March calendar, and donate that much. We’re always up for a little friendly competition, so let's see what class fills their calendar first!
  • Will the Seniors start off strong?
  • Or will the Juniors jump in with both feet? Maybe the Sophomores will step up to the plate!
  • Or will the Freshmen fly to the finish?
  • Let the competition commence!

BACON News: CHS TSA Students Qualify for State Conference

Congratulations to our BACON students' recent success at the Valley Technology Student Association (TSA) Regional Fair Qualifiers!

For those who might not be familiar, TSA is a relatively new addition to BACON T. It brings students together to tackle both individual and team engineering and technology challenges—ranging from writing and recording original tracks for Music Production to building and flying rubber-band-powered planes from scratch in Flight Endurance. This past weekend, our students' hard work was put to the test as select events were judged at the local Valley Region TSA qualifiers hosted at Stuarts Draft High School.
Please join me in congratulating the following talented students who brought home trophies and placed in their respective competitive events:
Board Game Design — 1st Place i
  • Kellen Bobko
  • Shawn Castillo
  • Lyla Eicher
  • Robin Faith-Garcia
  • Liza Ann Henderson
  • Blake Jennings
  • Zadie Tassone
Flight Endurance
  • Ada Pray — 1st Place
  • Riley Yoder — 2nd Place i
Promotional Design
  • Lily Curtis — 3rd Place
Because of their incredible hard work, creativity, and dedication, all of these students have qualified to move forward! They will proudly represent Charlottesville High School as they compete at the Virginia Technology Student Association State Conference, which will take place from April 30th to May 3rd in Hampton, VA.

Jefferson-Madison Regional @ CHS

Our local public library, Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (JMRL) will be visiting CHS for tabling in B Commons during lunches on Friday, March 13 and Friday, April 17. They will be sharing information about their teen programming, the JMRL internship/scholarship program, and general library services and resources (they have so much more than just books!).

JMRL has also offered to deliver library cards on the tabling days for students that submit a library card application ahead of time.

Students can return library card applications to the school counseling office, or you are welcome to drop forms in my mailbox.

Two notes about the library card application form:
1) A parent/guardian signature is required for students under age 18
