A Note from Dr. Malone

Dear Black Knights,

This week's update includes the celebration of two of our amazing staff for what they mean not just to their respective departments but to the entire CHS community.

The update also includes the reminder that our final quarter of this school year has begun. Information on how to access Quarter 3 grades and Year 1 grades is included below.

https://www.parentsquare.com/feeds/62300406

Even though CCS has quarterly report cards, the Year 1 (Y1 or F1) grade in PowerSchool is the most accurate and most important grade. The Y1 grade reflects a student's grade including assessments, assignments, and re-takes of tests. The Y1 grade will ultimately be the grade included on transcripts and the grade that is shared with colleges or universities (for those whose post-secondary decision is college).

Families and students are encouraged to use the PowerSchool app to see real-time grades as soon as they are entered by teachers.
The link for families to access most of our CCS apps including PowerSchool to see grades and attendance is below:

Important Report Card Dates
  • March 16: End of Quarter 3
  • March 12 – March 27: PowerSchool portal may be unavailable for viewing new grades
  • March 20: No School – Teacher Workday (Report Card Preparation)
  • March 27: Report cards sent via ParentSquare
  • March 27: PowerSchool portal reopens for students and families to view all grades to date
  • April 3 - Full School Day
  • April 6-10: Spring Break

We are in the final stretch of this school year and these last 9 weeks may be the most critical. Thank you for supporting our sustained energy, our focus, and our commitment to giving our very best for every student, every day.

We can only do this together.

I love the Knight Life!

Newberry

CHS Golden Apple Award Winner: Justin Newberry

I am honored to introduce Justin Newberry as this year's CHS Golden Apple Award Winner.

CHS had nearly 20 nominations submitted to the Golden Apple Award selection committee.

Mr. Newberry's nominations came from students, families, colleagues, and division staff.

The resounding themes were igniting student passions, setting high expectations, and generating enthusiasm for students to want to be in his classes.

All are welcome to join us to honor Mr. Newberry and all of the Golden Apple Award Winners on April 29th @ 5pm at the Lane Auditorium, 401 McIntire Rd.
Ms. Tison

Ms. Tison was nominated for going above and beyond for every student, every day.
She is beloved for always supporting her team and all of our students; for jumping in when she doesn't need to; and for always being ready to help.

Ms. Tison is a wonderful colleague, an excellent teacher, and a deeply effective leader!

Congratulations, Ms. Tison, on your Royal Recognition!

March Madness Event!

March is made for competition! It’s the final push in winter activities as we hop into spring! You have been wonderful donating time, money, and items to benefit CHS, but the year isn’t over, and the CHS PTO has even more field trips, materials, and scholarships we’d like to help make possible!

We’re hoping this new fundraiser will do just that. Can you help?

Simply choose a date on the March calendar, and donate that much. We’re always up for a little friendly competition, so let's see what class fills their calendar first!
  • Will the Seniors start off strong?
  • Or will the Juniors jump in with both feet? Maybe the Sophomores will step up to the plate!
  • Or will the Freshmen fly to the finish?
  • Let the competition commence!

Jefferson-Madison Regional @ CHS

Our local public library, Jefferson-Madison Regional Library (JMRL) will be visiting CHS for tabling in B Commons during lunches on Friday, April 17. They will be sharing information about their teen programming, the JMRL internship/scholarship program, and general library services and resources (they have so much more than just books!).

JMRL has also offered to deliver library cards on the tabling days for students that submit a library card application ahead of time.

Students can return library card applications to the school counseling office, or you are welcome to drop forms in my mailbox.

Two notes about the library card application form:
1) A parent/guardian signature is required for students under age 18
2) Students are not required to present photo ID (as noted on the form) since I will be able to confirm their address before I return the forms to JMRL
