A Note from Dr. Malone

Dear Black Knights,

The school year may be winding down in terms of the number of days remaining but this time remains full of importance and meaning.

This year's theme of showing up remains critical. The warm weather and the call of summer may tempt us in to letting up on expectations and the value of structure and routines but they are more important than ever.
We continue to expect students to show up on time and ready to learn. Particularly now, as we help our seniors complete their graduation requirements, we understand how all of the compounding moments of avoidance and procrastination can have on critical moments in our lives.

At the same time, this time of the school year is also full of opportunity. There is still time to improve, to connect, to see things through, to finish strong, and to demonstrate resilience and pride in the work ahead.

We believe deeply in the capacity of our students and in the strength of this community to support one another through these final weeks of the year.

Let’s continue to show up for the Black Knight Nation, for one another, and for the small moments that matter and build to a greater purpose.

CHS...We Love It!

CHS Bell Schedule for AP/SOL Testing Dates

IMPORTANT SCHOOL SCHEDULE NOTE:
The final quarter of this school year will include changes to our school schedule to support AP/SOL testing. Please note the following changes to our school schedule.
CHS will run a 3-hour delayed schedule on the following dates:
  • May 13-14
On these dates, SOL testing students will report on time by 9am. There will be no Early Morning classes on these dates.

  • AP exams take top priority.

If you are scheduled to take an SOL at the same time, you’ll take the SOL on the makeup day.

All non-testing students will report by 12pm.

An overview of the spring testing schedule, including our bell schedule for the above dates, is below.

CHS Celebrations

I Love the Knight Life!

CHS Fine and Performing Arts

I hope you all had the chance to view the CCS ArtConnections exhibit on the Downtown Mall.

The exhibit features artwork from Charlottesville City Schools students, including CHS artists, displayed throughout downtown businesses and public spaces.

The scale of the exhibit is extensive and impressive. More than 1,200 student art pieces from all City Schools are displayed across dozens of Downtown Mall locations through May 21st.

CHS Theatre also had a major spring season. Following the success of West Side Story earlier this year, TheatreCHS closed the spring with a production of 9 to 5: The Musical, performed April 30 through May 3. The production highlighted the continued strength of CHS performing arts and the remarkable student leadership, acting, technical theater, choreography, music, and production work that make these performances possible. 9 to 5 was an absolute hoot and a perfect cap to a successful TheatreCHS year.

Dogwood Track Success

The 2026 Dogwood Track Classic once again brought together many of the top track and field programs in Virginia and the region at the University of Virginia’s Lannigan Field — and CHS athletes delivered several impressive performances on a major stage.

One of the standout accomplishments for Charlottesville High School came in the Girls Sprint Medley Relay, where the CHS relay team of Makiyah Brown, Alerah Harris, Juliana Pierce and Elaina Pierce came in FIRST and set the Meet Record and posted a time of 4:00.57 — one of the elite performances of the entire meet. That performance earned recognition on MileSplit’s elite performances list and placed CHS among the top relay groups competing at the event.
