A Note from Dr. Malone ~ Week of August 4th, 2024
Dear Black Knight Families -

This week's update includes a reminder about Open House on August 12th, Chromebook distribution, and student schedules.

CHS Open House
New or returning CHS students and families are invited to Open House from 5p-7p.

For Freshman Families and Students only, you are invited to either join me for a Welcome presentation in the MLK PAC at 4:15p OR you and your Freshman can proceed to the Open House at 4pm.

Chromebook Distribution
This update was shared yesterday in a separate post but below is the schedule summary:
Pick-Up Dates and Times Location: Outside of CHS main office
  • Wednesday, August 7th: 9am-12pm
  • Thursday, August 8th: 9am-12pm
  • Friday, August 9th: 2pm-5pm
  • Monday, August 12th: 11-4 Freshman Orientation (Freshman students only)
  • Tuesday, August 13th: 9am-11am
*Chromebooks will not be distributed during CHS Open House.*

Communication and Schedules
ParentSquare will be the primary method of communication from CHS - including from the principal, athletics and clubs, and from staff. Please make sure the app is downloaded on your devices.

We plan for student schedules and bus schedules to be available later this week. Please make sure you can access both PowerSchool and ParentSquare for updates.

CHS staff return tomorrow for a full week of preparation and training for the new school year. Our staff cannot wait to greet this new year, welcome our new Freshman, and greet our new and returning Black Knights.

We are the Black Knight Nation.

CHS...I love it. I love it. I love it!

Sincerely,
Dr. Malone
More about School Safety and Procedures Update
This update includes an overview of the safety features impacting CHS this upcoming year:
  • Our cell phone policy will remain “Off and Away the Entire Day” (and we are watching for state guidance on this topic to be released in January).
  • We have made excellent progress on exterior door access control which means that if a door is opened without swiping a staff member's fob, an alarm will sound.
  • We will be using weapons detectors to screen all guests at ticketed public events with anticipated attendance of 250+ (and our clear bag policy remains in place).
  • We will be using an improved visitor management system -- please continue to bring a photo ID when you check in.
  • Good progress has been made in our single-stall bathrooms in B Commons, (but work may still be underway when you visit us for open house).
  • We'll begin use of e-hall passes to improve safety, accountability, and efficiency for writing student passes. You'll even be able to pre-schedule passes for events such as doctor's appointments.
