Happy New Year, CHS Families!
“The only choice we have is either to accept the world as it is or to change it.”
— W. H. Auden
I believe that every day offers an opportunity to renew, reset, or recommit—to change a habit, improve a behavior, or return to the values we hold dear. In that sense, New Year’s Day is much like any other day. Looked at another way, however, the start of a new year serves as an elevated reminder to be intentional about what matters most—and to pursue it with focus, energy, and resolve.
I guess time away from school has a way of putting my heart on my sleeve...it happens.
That's because I’ve missed you all and am excited to return to the daily routines, the relationships, and the shared work that make Charlottesville High School such a special place. I hope you have enjoyed a restful, warm, and meaningful winter break.
Our return will be met with a busy and important stretch of work in the weeks and months ahead. This includes preparing for next year’s master schedule and course and program offerings. Our school counselors will soon begin meeting with students to review graduation progress and help develop plans that support both success and meaningful experiences on the path to graduation. This month, CHS will also host a PTO meeting (January 12) and Curriculum Night (January 21), where updates on our planning will be shared. Please be sure to read today’s newsletter and future communications for more information.
As always, CHS is strongest when we are aligned around a shared purpose. At its core, that purpose is simple and demanding: to ensure every student experiences a school that is safe, healthy, relevant, and deeply engaging.
The year ahead will move quickly—let’s meet it together with clarity, commitment, and care.
Lastly, tomorrow (Monday, January 5, 2026) is a Teacher Workday. Students will return Tuesday, January 6th.
