Come From Away — Wednesday Rehearsal & September 11
Hi everyone,
Thank you for the work you put into our first Come From Away music rehearsal on Friday. We made a good start on the vocal material, including “Welcome to the Rock,” and began working our way into the company music.
We have 1:05–2:30 today, so we’ll use our time efficiently to review what we started Friday and continue moving forward.
TODAY — WEDNESDAY
Vocal warm-up + review
“Welcome to the Rock”
Finish “Prayer”
“Screech In”
“Costume Party” introduction / review
“Stop the World” / “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere”
A reminder about your Singer/Actor tracks:
Don’t think of the numbered tracks as a ranking of importance or as an indication that someone is “just ensemble.”
The ensemble is one of the most important characters in this show.

FRIDAY — SEPTEMBER 11
Friday is September 11, which has particular significance because it is the day on which the events of Come From Away begin. I want to acknowledge that significance while also keeping our work focused on the human story we’re telling.
We’ll spend a portion of our rehearsal talking about the people behind these characters and what it means to portray real people and a real event with empathy and respect.
Character + Photograph
Please come Friday with one photograph or image that helps you understand your character or actor track.
It could be:
Newfoundland or Gander
An airport or airplane
A family/community photograph
Something related to your character’s occupation
A period image
Something that represents what your character values
Or simply an image that makes you think, “This is the world my character comes from.”
Be prepared to briefly explain why you chose it.
Questions/ to ask:
What might my character have been worried about on September 11, 2001?
and what could my character offer someone whose life had suddenly been disrupted?
We’ll use those questions to begin thinking about these people as human beings rather than simply characters in a musical.
Friday’s rehearsal:
We’ll balance that discussion with music:
Vocal warm-up
Sing Thru ENTIRE SHOW until 2:10 approx.
2:10–2:20 — Character/September 11 discussion + photographs
