A Note from Dr. Malone

Dear CHS Community,

We hope you are having a wonderful week! Here is an important update for our upcoming schedule for this week including a reminder about family conferences and Google Chat.

Family Conferences – This Friday

A quick reminder that Family Conferences will take place this Friday.

Scheduling: Teachers are currently reaching out to families to schedule individual conference times. Please keep an eye on ParentSquare to confirm your appointment.or for updates.
Questions? If you have specific questions or haven't heard from a teacher you particularly wish to speak with, please feel free to reach out to them directly.

GChat - Google Chat:

Technology has noted significant security concerns regarding Google Chat's ability to capture and retain conversations and chats between students. After reviewing how this app could be supported for students, Technology deemed it a violation of policy and federal regulations because the law requires us to monitor and filter such chats. Technology will continue to work with Google to find a solution that meets our policies and regulations. In the meantime, please use Gmail for communication when needed.

NEW VISITOR MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AT OUR SCHOOL

As part of our ongoing commitment to campus safety, our district is transitioning to Raptor Technologies for visitor management, replacing our previous Securly system. The Raptor system allows us to keep better track of all guests entering our school while ensuring our campus remains secure. Here is what you need to know when visiting us this year:

What to Expect When You Arrive

When visiting during school hours, check-in is quick and self-guided:

Photo ID: Please bring your government-issued driver’s license or photo ID.
Self-Check-In iPad: You will scan the front and back of your driver's license directly at the front desk iPad kiosk and take a quick photo. (Our front desk staff or admin tech will be right there if you need help or need manual entry!)

Save Time with the Raptor App

You can save time and a few steps by downloading the Raptor Safe App before your visit:

Set up your profile and enter your details in advance.
The app will generate a personal QR code.
When you arrive, simply scan your QR code at the iPad kiosk for a fast check-in!

Pre-Registering for School Events

For special school events, assemblies, or classroom visits, we will send out a pre-registration link ahead of time. Registering online beforehand will help check-ins run a lot more efficiently.

Quarter 1 Overview + Family Conferences

Quarter 1 Timeline

The end of Quarter 1 is Monday, October 12
Friday, October 2 is Family/Teacher Conference Day (no school for students).
Teachers have been reaching out to schedule appointments for Friday or alternate times. Similar to previous Family Conference dates, I’ve directed teachers to prioritize meetings with families of students who are at risk (grades of D or lower) or who are struggling with engagement.
Any family or student who wants to meet with their teacher is encouraged to contact the teacher directly via email or ParentSquare.

We've been so grateful for the generous response to the Charlottesville City Schools Snack Drive! This is the last week to ensure all our students have healthy snacks for the school year.

Help us finish strong before the deadline! We're asking for one final push to help us stock our schools with nutritious, individually packaged, and peanut-free snacks.

Come and see the fully renovated and expanded Charlottesville Middle School! Prospective families and members of the community can now take guided tours of CMS.

Off and Away: Phones and Confiscations

Off & Away

Student personal devices must be Off and Away during the school day: 9am - 4pm.
Confiscated phones are turned into the main office.
CHS Office Staff will ParentSquare/message families if phones are confiscated
Confiscated phones may only be picked up by an approved family member and will not be provided back to students.

This year, our PTO Meetings occur on the 4th Tuesday of each Month at CHS and via Zoom @ 7pm.

The first PTO Meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 27th @ 7pm.
