A Note from Dr. Malone

Black Knights –

With the end of the quarter approaching, I am resharing important reminders and key dates.
CHS is reaching the end of the 1st quarter this Monday, October 12th. From October 12th through October 23rd, the student and parent portals will be closed. This closure allows teachers time to finalize all submitted grades, which may cause Year 1 grades to fluctuate until final entries are complete.

  • Report Cards Shared with Families: 10/23/2026 at 5:00 PM
  • Student/Parent Portals Reopen: 10/23/2026 after 5:00 PM

Please maintain open communication with CHS and our teachers if you have concerns about your student's academic progress. As always, we encourage you to empower your student to advocate directly with their teachers to better understand their progress and what they can do to finish the quarter successfully.

CHS...I love it. I love it. I love it!

The key refrain that CHS will affirm again and again—for staff and for students—is simple:

  • Ask for help
  • Be good and kind to others

Our Core Values—Community, Honesty, and Striving—are interwoven into our daily routines, our instructional planning, and our school-wide expectations. They are simple traits that remind us we are at our best when we work together to become something better and when we do so with integrity.

Community Support and Engagement

Early Voting Available Through Oct. 31, Election Day is Nov. 3

This fall, the City of Charlottesville will vote on a 1% local sales tax to fund school construction.
A YES vote could mean an estimated $12 million in annual revenue exclusively for school capital projects.
A NO vote would mean capital projects must be funded through existing revenue sources or delayed until alternative funding is secured.
For more information about possible projects the revenue could support, visit charlottesvilleschools.org/facilities

Technology Updates and Resources

GChat - Student Use

Technology has noted significant security concerns regarding Google Chat's ability to capture and retain conversations and chats between students. After reviewing how this app could be supported for students, Technology deemed it a violation of policy and federal regulations because the law requires us to monitor and filter such chats. Technology will continue to work with Google to find a solution that meets our policies and regulations. In the meantime, please use Gmail for communication when needed.
