Charlottesville High School offers rigorous academics, hands-on learning, and personalized pathways that prepare students for whatever comes next.

Whether students are pursuing college, a career, military service, or another path after graduation, they can explore challenging coursework, earn college credit, develop technical skills, and discover opportunities that match their interests and goals.

Alternative Programs

We offer several options for high-school students who need a second chance at school, including credit recovery and career readiness.

WALK

WALK is a credit recovery program intended to support students to graduate on time. It takes place on the campus of CHS.

Lugo-McGinness Academy (LMA)

Lugo-McGinness Academy is a small, non-traditional academy on 11th St. NW that serves Charlottesville City Schools students in grades 9-12. Students may self-select or be referred for admission to the program.

Knight School

Knight School is an alternative program for Charlottesville students in grades 9-12 at LMA. With classes that take place four nights a week, three hours per night, Knight School focuses on rekindling students’ connection to school, building community, recovering credits, and building skills for life.

Individual Student Alternative Education Plan

The Individual Student Alternative Education Plan (ISAEP) is a Virginia initiative to provide an opportunity for students ages 16 and up to work toward a General Education Development (GED®) Certificate and a vocational/career skill without dropping out of school.
